We’re Working Out! E-book

December 19th, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

At the suggestion of many of my fans and followers, I have finally decided to release my first book, We’re Working Out! A Zen Approach to Everyday Fitness as an e-book.

The e-book is currently available as a PDF download, with plans to have it on other formats (including a Kindle version) in early 2012.

Though the e-book can be purchased in any country, it has been “e-published” by a British company called Fitedia, so the price is listed in pounds. When you order, the cost will be converted into your currency.

Here’s what people are saying about the book:

“Al Kavadlo’s We’re Working Out! A Zen Approach to Everyday Fitness is a phenomenal catalog of techniques, ideas and tactics for achieving peak physical ability. Possibly the best book on fitness ever – if you enjoyed my book, go buy his. You won’t regret it.”

Paul Wade, Author of Convict Conditioning

“The first time I met Al he challenged me to a one-arm chin-up! His enthusiasm for fitness is infectious no matter if you are just dabbling in exercise for the first time or are an Ironman World Champion.”

Karen Smyers, USA Triathlon Hall of Famer and Ironman World Champion

“Al’s approach combines effective exercises with a motivating philosophy that
helped me to pursue my fitness goals. Training with him reminded me how
rewarding working out can be.”

Emma Robinson, Two-time Olympic medalist in rowing

“Al’s approach to fitness is a breath of fresh air and a voice of reason.
This book is a necessary step in the documentation of physical culture.”

Randy Humola, Personal training legend

Nice, Matt!  I think it’ll be right up your alley!

  • Josh

Hey Al, would you mind posting a table of contents or a brief summary of everything covered?  I’m a pretty frugal guy, so it would help to know what’s discussed in the book before I buy it.

  • Lloydy

Dear Al i shall be buying a copy of your book soon, if its anything like your site it will be awesome! I have just starting to exercise again and was wondering weather an aim of being able to do 3 times 10-15 reps of squats, push ups and australian pull ups (i can do 3 chin ups! lol) would be a good place to start? I am thinking of using the sun salutation as a warm up as i used to do yoga too.

  • Lloydy

p.s. would my lower back, abs and obliques get enough of a workout and become stronger from this until i reached my goal?

Chapter 6 – Primitive Minds: Fight or Flight
Chapter 7 – Aesthetics vs. Functionality
    Chapter 8 – Fifty-Fifty
Chapter 9 – The Level Playing Field and the Path Ahead
    Chapter 10 – We’re Working Out!

There is also an appendix with a couple of sample routines.

Hey Lloydy – This sounds like a great regimen to start with!  As for the sun salutation, check out this blog post I did on Yoga and Strength Training: http://www.alkavadlo.com/2011/01/yoga-and-strength-training/

    Hi Al,
Now I can’t decide whether to go for paper or e book! Actually, I think it will be paper, I prefer stuff I can actually hold. Just wondering if you have any advice on ways to mke it easier those hours in front of the computer easier on the back? I’m thinking of investing in one of those kneeling chairs, because hours in front of the keyboard are killing me!

Very good question, Nick.  The best thing is to make sure you stand and stretch every 20-30 mins.  I used to write at a standing desk for a little while, but that has problems of it’s own.  This might be a good topic for a future blog post…

  • Etienne

I use a stand up desk at my office, It works great for me. No back pain; though I am not sure if thats from the standing or all the pullups! Here is the link to an interesting article about standing desks…..

Definitely post when it comes out in a Kindle format. I can read PDFs on my iphone, but I much prefer the Kindle versions. I’m looking forward to getting a copy… I found you via Convict Conditioning 2, and I love what bodyweight training is doing for me.
